VIRTUALWINDTUNNEL
The effect of wind on tall buildings is one of the challenges architects and engineers have to face. A streamlined building does not only reduce the wind-related stresses on the building but it also offers better comfort to its occupants through reduced turbulence and wind speeds. On the other hand, the faster winds at high level may be deflected down to ground level by tall buildings causing unpleasant and even dangerous conditions for pedestrians, Wind may be channelled around buildings, between buildings or along avenues causing accelerated wind speeds at pedestrian level and giving rise to pedestrian discomfort. Another problematic issue is the accumulation of traffic fumes and or other pollutants around uniformly tall buildings if wind speeds are insufficient.
VRS, in line with its strategy of offering an integrated approach to its clients, can analyse the effect of wind on a tall buildings at any stage of the design process. This will benefit architects and planners who will be in a better position to understand through 3d visualization and scientific results the behaviour of the building under wind conditions.
VRS utilises specialized software to produce real simulations of how the wind will flow around buildings. Therefore one can save a lot of time and money building cumbersome timber models and analysing the effect of wind in a wind tunnel. However, by making use of our system, an organisation, an architectural firm or planners can study the effect of wind on buildings in real-time at design stage. Moreover, one can also see the effect of mitigation measures on problematic areas in real-time. |
